Biomutant – Can You Turn Off the Narrator

Biomutant - Narrator Guide

Biomutant is an open-world RPG with a narrator that likes to talk a little bit too much for some people. In this universe, the characters all speak a gibberish language that’s then translated by the narrator. And on top of that, they also like to make comments as you’re wandering around the world. If you’re wondering if you can turn off the narrator altogether, this guide is for you.

Can You Turn Off the Biomutant Narrator?

Biomutant - Narrator Settings

The audio settings for Biomutant have a few settings that can help with reducing how often they talk or muting altogether.

Update 6/2/2021:

Biomutant developer Experiment 101 released a patch on June 1, 2021, adding options to completely remove the narrator and gibberish speak. You can disable either of the two if you’d prefer one but not the other. However, if you’d prefer to simply reduce the amount of either, you can do that with the rest of our guide below.

Original Article:

Before getting into turning off the narrator completely, you may want to take a look at the frequency settings instead. As shown in the above screenshot, the audio section has two settings with one about the narrator and the other for the gibberish language. These are at 50 by default, but you can tweak them to change how often you hear both.

In my own experience, these settings don’t seem to make a difference for NPC conversations, unfortunately. With that said, I’ve only played a pre-release version of Biomutant, so it’s possible this is a bug. The frequency settings seem like they only impact while you’re wandering around the world.

How to Turn Off the Narrator

If you still want to completely turn off the narrator, the best you can do is mute the speech option. You can still read the subtitles if you have them turned on as an alternative. But, this won’t skip or prevent dialogue from happening. However, you can still manually skip conversations by interacting with them. For example, pressing the spacebar or enter button on PC.

It’s possible the community may come up with their own solution later on through modding. Unfortunately, the publisher has an FAQ for Biomutant that states they have no plans to implement modding tools. While this won’t prevent modders completely from creating mods, it does make it much more difficult.

We’re currently working on more guides to help everyone enjoy their experience more.
