New World – What Are Briar Branches

New World - What Are Briar Branches

Whether you’re working on a New World quest or need to make mana potions, you may be wondering what are Briar Branches. Don’t worry, you’re not the only one. There are plenty of different resources in Aeternum that can be difficult to find if you don’t know where to start.

Our short guide explains how to find Briar Branches and the different resources you get from harvesting them. While you can’t take advantage of farming them for the Harvesting trade skill, you can use them for Weak Mana Potions and more. Many players take advantage of farming Hemp instead for Harvesting, however.

What Are Briar Branches in New World

New World - Briar Branches Bush

You’re bound to find tons of Bullrush plants in the same area as Briar if you’re looking for Reeds.

Briar Branches are an item you can get from black thorny bushes. These are often found along rivers and tend to look similar to normal bushes too. So it can be easy to mix them up by mistake. However, you can clearly see the difference in the screenshot above.

You can get Briar Buds, Thorny Vines, and Firefly Bait by harvesting this type of bush. Chances are you may need the Briar Branches for an early New World quest. Or maybe you need Thorny Vines for a potion that requires Tier 1 Offensive Reagents.

While you can also use Briar Buds for Weak Mana Potions, these tend to be cheap on the player market. Be careful you don’t get taken advantage of because sometimes better versions of mana potions tend to run cheaper. For example, on my New World server, Strong Mana Potions are often cheaper than weak ones.

Where to Find Briar Branches in New World

New World - Fisherman's Bend Map

Fisherman’s Bend is a popular spot since the starting zone quests intersect here.

If you’re not quite sure where to start to look for Briar Branches, there’s a good area to find them quickly. You can visit Fisherman’s Bend in Windsward. This is right next to the Hermit’s Shrine fast travel point that the main questline brings you to. If you’re still not quite sure where this is, it’s directly west of the WIndsward settlement until you hit the border.

The location of Fisherman’s Bend is also shown in the screenshot above. Fortunately, you can find a good amount of Briar bushes along the river. Depending on how active your server is, you may need to travel a little further to find bushes that haven’t been harvested. Especially since this is an active quest area for those still early in the New World story.

New World - Harvesting Trade Skill Tracking

Tracking is a useful mechanic in New World to help you find certain plants more easily. Unfortunately, you can use this for finding Briar Branches.

One annoying part about trying to find Briar is that you can’t use the tracking mechanic for it. This is because unlike Hemp or other similar plants, Briar doesn’t require the Harvesting trade skill. The one good thing about this is that you don’t need a tool to gather it.

That’s all there is to this short New World guide on what are Briar Branches. If you have any other questions for me, feel free to comment below. And I’ll do my best to help out if I can. It’s worth noting that while you can easily find Briar in Windsward, you can find it elsewhere too. Be sure to visit more useful guides listed below.
