Understanding how to increase loyalty in Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord is a huge part of creating a successful fief. Regardless of whether this is your first castle or town, it can be difficult due to how many factors are at play. Conquering a new fief can immediately lead to low loyalty and a risk of rebellion. To avoid that and instead increase your loyalty, learn all about the different perks, policies, and tricks to run a happy fief.

How to Increase Loyalty in Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord

Keeping your castle or town happy varies slightly due to how different buildings, policies, and perks can impact them. For example, a policy may only apply to towns, whereas one may instead say “settlements”. Alongside the many governor perks and policies you can take advantage of, I’ve included several other factors to be aware of first, below.

Conditions that raise your fief’s loyalty:

  • +1 loyalty if the assigned governor has the same culture as their fief.
  • Positive loyalty gain if the fief’s security is over 50. Maxes out at +1.
  • Positive loyalty gain from Loyalty Drift if the fief’s loyalty is below 50.
  • The Courthouse town building increases daily loyalty starting at .3, at level 1.
  • +3 loyalty via the Festival and Games town project. Only applies if you’re not constructing any buildings.
  • +.5 loyalty per notable in a town supporting you (may apply to villages too). This relies on getting a notable’s relation to 50 and then speaking with them to get their support. You’ll have to pay them and can only do this if they’re not already supporting another lord.

Conditions that lower your fief’s loyalty:

  • -1 or -2 loyalty if the fief is starving.
  • -1 loyalty if the assigned governor’s culture is different.
  • -3 loyalty if the clan owner has a different culture from the fief
  • Negative loyalty if the fief’s security is below 50.
  • Negative loyalty from Loyalty Drift if the fief’s loyalty is above 50. Maxes out at -5.

Perks to Increase Loyalty in Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord

One of the most important parts of running a fief is having a good governor in place. You’ll want to focus on perks that have (Governor) in it for your companions and/or family members in that role. These can help you raise a militia quicker, increase security, and, of course, increase loyalty. If possible, make sure to have a governor with the same culture as the fief they’re governing.

For those of you who are newer to this side of Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord, the governor perks only benefit someone in that role. Unfortunately, this means that the governor benefits in perks will do nothing for you as a player. Before checking the table, one of the perks requires playing on the War Sails expansion.

  • (Governor) +10% effect from forums, marketplaces, and festivals.

  • (Personal) +5 loyalty bonus to settlement while waiting in the settlement.
  • (Party Leader) +5% daily chance to gain +1 relationship with a random lord in the same army.
Leadership 75 Heroic Leader
  • (Governor) +1 daily loyalty in the governed settlement.
  • (Captain) +10% battle morale penalty to enemies when troops in your formation kill an enemy.
Steward 200 Contractors
  • (Quartermaster) -25% wages and upgrade costs of the mercenary troops in your party.
  • (Governor) +10% town project effects in the governed settlement.
Steward 250 Master of Planning
  • (Quartermaster) -40% food consumption while your party is in a siege camp.
  • (Governor) +20% effectiveness to continuous projects in the governed settlement.
Medicine 200 Physician of People
  • (Governor) +1 loyalty per day in the governed settlement.
  • (Surgeon) +30% chance to recover from lethal wounds for tier 1 and 2 troops.
Shipmaster 125 Raven Eye
  • (Party Leader) +20% to spotting range on campaign map.
  • (Governor) +1 loyalty for each fishing boat returning to port.

Kingdom Policies That Impact Loyalty in Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord

Every kingdom can vote on policies that make up how it operates via positive and negative changes. While many of these changes impact fiefs, they can also affect how much Influence you get, how big your party size is, and more. I’ve put together the table below to show every policy that can increase or decrease the loyalty of fiefs in your kingdom.

Unfortunately, it isn’t always easy to enact the policies that you want. This is because you’ll need 100 Influence to propose a new policy or propose getting rid of one. Depending on how the other clans in your kingdom feel, you may need more Influence to override their vote. With all that said, it’s worth emphasizing to carefully read each policy’s benefits. For example, certain policies only help towns or the ruling clan.

Overall, unless you’re trying to increase the loyalty of someone else’s fief, that’s everything you need to know about how it works. If you’re trying to help someone else’s fief or even hurt an enemy one, you’ll need to target its security and food source. Tricks like selling food to a town, getting rid of nearby hideouts, and preventing village raids make an impact. Or vice versa to do damage.
