The Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord War Sails quest, Speak to the Sailors in Omor, begins after dealing with Emira al Fahda. Now that we’re no longer working with Lahar in the previous quest, Hunt Down Emira al Fahda, we’re off to meet a new friend of Gunnar’s.

Speak With Gunnar at the Ostican Port

After learning from Fahda that Vlandian pirates are working with the Sea Hounds, Gunnar has done more digging into this. Speaking with him at the Ostican port confirms that several large warships are patrolling near the Sturgian town of Omor.

Following Gunnar’s assumptions that they’re creating a blockade to catch incoming traders, we’ll have to go disrupt those plans. This sends us off to Omor to meet a past friend of Gunnar’s. Once you’re ready, let him know that you’re ready to set sail.

Sail to the Sturgian Town of Omor

Upon entering Omor, you’ll enter a conversation with Bjolgur. You may recall Gunnar mentioning his name once before in passing. Speaking with Bjolgur reveals that he was originally going to protect the Omor merchants, but they never paid up. Despite this, he crafts a creative plan to destroy the blockade.

The idea is to fill a basic ship with oil and pitch to sail right into the blockade. This will create a massive fireball to destroy anything in its way. Once you’re ready for this plan, let Bjolgur know that you’re willing to steer the ship onward.

Ram the Enemy Ship With Your Fireship

This almost immediately leads to a battle where you’re steering the fireship. Before you can even leave Omor’s port, the blockade stops you. Here’s what you need to know about the fireship part, as explained by Gunnar:

  • The goal is to successfully sail to the yellow exclamation point straight ahead without taking too much damage.
  • You’ll need to dodge flaming ballista bolts that can torch your ship.
  • The flaming ballista bolts will torch the water where they land, so try to avoid those as well.
  • As you start to get close to the enemy ship, Gunnar will tell you to jump into the water.

Escape the Incoming Vlandian Pirates by Horseback

After hopping off the boat and successfully destroying the blockade, you’ll need to swim to shore. Look for the nearby yellow exclamation points and/or follow Gunnar. Depending on your athletics and gear weight, he may get there first.

Hop onto one of the two horses on land and follow Gunnar to safety. You’ll come across many Sea Hounds along the way that are only on foot. For the most part, you can evade them by simply riding out of their way. However, you will run into ranged enemies where it doesn’t hurt to have a shield or maneuver erratically to avoid their shots.

You’ll eventually reach a downhill portion of the path that leads directly to a friendly Sturgian ship. Once you get close enough, it’ll force you off your horse. You can then run to the ship, where it’ll force you into control of it.

Sail to the Sturgian Ship to Safety

This next segment of your escape from the Vlandian pirates focuses on dodging enemy ships and bolts. Try to use the many mini islands and rocks to create a wall between your ship and theirs. This will help you dodge the many incoming flaming ballista bolts. Aside from that, there’s no need to try and destroy or board any enemy ships here.

Your main goal is to escape, so do your best to continue zig-zagging through the river and get away. It’s okay if you occasionally get hit by ballista bolts. In my playthrough, I got hit a few times, but there was enough of a gap for the flames to go out. Once you finally reach the end of the river, a conversation with trigger with Bjolgur.

He’ll commend your efforts with the fireship and explain how frustrated Purig will be due to not getting all that silver. This leads to him offering to help you after having helped him out. Aside from giving you a new lead regarding a merchant named Salautas Crusas, he’ll also join you in your hunt. This merchant is allegedly an ambassador for Purig, who tried to recruit Bjolgur into the Sea Hounds. Purig’s overall goal is to ravage the Sturgian and Vlandian coasts while forming a new army as king.

Once this conversation ends, Bjolgur mentions that he’ll fit a ship and then meet you back at Ostican. This completes the quest and sends you to the Ostican port to speak with Gunnar and start the next quest, Go to the Skatria Islands.
