The Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord War Sails quest, Meet the Vlandian Merchants, starts after dealing with some Sea Hound ships. Moving on from our pirate interrogation in the quest, Defeat the Sea Hounds, we’re off to protect some merchants.

Talk to Gunnar at the Ostican Port
Meeting back up with Gunnar gives the two of you a chance to discuss your next plans against the Sea Hounds. After our little discussion with the pirate we held captive, Gunnar has learned that the Sea Hounds have an ambush planned. We’ll need to sail off to Hvalvik and meet a Vlandian merchant ship.
The goal is to escort them safely to the south, so the Sea Hounds can’t profit from their labor. Before heading out, Gunnar recommends bringing 20 Grain and Meat or at least an equivalent of that. Despite not needing your own troops or ship in this campaign, you will need to feed and pay your party.
Once you’re ready to sail, simply speak with Gunnar as usual and tell him that you’re ready to sail. If you need to buy some food first, you can speak with the nearby traders in town. This is also an opportunity to take a break if you need to earn some money or level up.
Sail to Hvalvik and Find the Vlandian Merchants
The rest of this quest doesn’t include too much more to it, even though it is part of a small chain of quests. After setting sail from Ostican, make your way to the Nordic town of Hvalvik, isolated on its own island. Be sure to avoid any storms along the way to prevent damaging your ship.
Once you’re about to sail right into the Hvalvik port, the Vlandian merchants will find you first. This starts a conversation with them and already completes the War Sails quest, Meet the Vlandian Merchants. This immediately leads to the next quest in our walkthrough, Escort the Vlandian Merchants.
