Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord – Save the Crewmen Walkthrough

The Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord War Sails quest, Save the Crewmen, triggers immediately after taking over the Sea Hound ship. Similar to the previous quest, Break Free of Captivity, this is another short one in the War Sails campaign. However, we still put together this quick guide to help you out, just in case you’re having trouble!

Save the Crewmen

Once you’ve finished speaking with Gunnar, head to the back of the ship, where a large handle hangs over the boat. You can interact with it by pressing F on PC to grab it. This will give you control of the ship to start steering and commanding your tiny crew. Just in case you missed the tutorial instructions in-game, here are the controls for sailing your ship:

  • WASD to control your ship
  • X to change how many people are using the oars.
  • C to change camera perspective.
  • Z to unfurl/furl the ship’s sail

After you’ve run through the tutorial tooltips, it’s time to rescue some crewmen from the ocean. Depending on your camera angle, you may notice the big glowing circles out in the water. There will be two of them that you can sail into to collect the floating crewmen there.

Upon reaching the first circle, Gunnar will instruct you to slow down so they can climb onto the ship. Since they’re actually swimming to the boat, you can simply wait until they’re on. Once they are, Gunnar will then tell you to head to the next circle for the other two.

Similar to the first circle, stop the ship once you reach the two crewmen so they can hop on. Once the last two of the four crewmen come aboard, you’ll have a short conversation with them and Gunnar. Instead of dealing with Purig’s other ship, which is likely still nearby, Gunnar recommends sailing back to Ostican.

Leaving this conversation completes the War Sails quest, Save the Crewmen. This starts the next in-between quest, Return to Ostican, which we won’t create a page for since it’s so simple. You’ll have this quest a few times throughout the War Sails campaign, but all it really is, is that. Upon reaching Ostican, you’ll get the next quest, Scourge of the Seas, which encompasses most of the campaign.

This will give you a chance to continue the campaign or return to your party if you need a break. Speaking with Gunnar in port progresses Scourge of the Seas and starts the next quest for this walkthrough, Defeat the Sea Hounds.
