The Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord War Sails quest, Break Free of Captivity, starts with Purig kidnapping us. After saving Gunnar in the Inquire at Ostican quest, we now have to try and break free of our chains. Continue reading for everything you need to know about this quest, alongside some tips too.
Due to how the War Sails campaign works, some quests are very close together and short. This is one case of a quest that’s extremely short, and as such, we’ve put together a quick guide explaining it. For other quests, be sure to check out our walkthrough hub.
Escape Captivity and Break Your Chains
Once the cinematic that explains how you got here ends, it’s time to try and escape. This part can be tough if you’re playing on a fresh character for the War Sails campaign. However, it’s far from impossible. Before freeing yourself from your chains with F on PC, you may want to look around the boat.
This will give you a chance to see where the three Sea Hounds are that you’ll have to defeat. Unfortunately, you won’t have any help for this part, but you can try repeatedly. I recommend taking out the Sea Hound Thug who’s alone first. You’ll have a better chance of dealing with them before the other two realize what’s happening.
After defeating all three Sea Hounds, use F on PC to release the other crewmates from their chains. This then leads to a short conversation with Gunnar thanking you for saving him a second time. Upon finishing your conversation, the Break Free of Captivity quest will be complete. You can then start sailing for the next short quest, Save the Crewman.
