Grow a Garden is a simple Roblox game that unsurprisingly revolves around growing a garden. Our Beginner’s Guide dives into questions like what to do first, how to get rich, and how to get better seeds. We also discuss the monetization in Grow a Garden as far as what you can spend Robux on.

Getting Started in Grow a Garden
What to Do First
1. Buy Carrot Seeds
When you first start, the game points you towards the Seed Shop so you can start your garden. Since you only have 20 Sheckles, you should buy two Carrot Seeds. Afterward, equip them from your hotkey bar at the bottom of the screen and then click where you want to plant them in your garden. You’ll need to place them in one of the eight plots inside your garden.
2. Harvest your carrots!
Since this is the first plant, it doesn’t take long to grow. Once it’s fully grown, harvest it and then sell your carrots to the trader. If you don’t want to walk there, you can click the buttons at the top center of your screen to teleport over. Unfortunately, there aren’t any buttons to teleport to the gear and pet traders. These two are on the opposite side of the area.
3. Upgrade to more expensive plants
Depending on how your first batch of carrots goes, you’ll probably need to buy more Carrot Seeds before upgrading to strawberries. After selling a few more carrots, I recommend buying a Strawberry Seed for your first plant that you can harvest repeatedly. This means it won’t disappear after gathering from it.
This is essentially the gameplay loop of Grow a Garden where you continue to grow plants, sell them, and try to get rarer ones. Every five minutes, the Seed Shop will restock giving you a chance to check for new seeds you may need. Such as the extremely rare ones or common seeds you may need to complete daily quests at the gear NPC.
As you start to unlock plants that take longer to grow and get pets, it’s worth knowing that they progress while you’re offline. This makes it so you can plant some seeds in your garden and then go and do something else in the meantime.
How to Get Rich
Getting money in Grow a Garden revolves around planting rare seeds and having them mutate to become even more valuable. A lot of this comes down to luck since you can’t force a rare seed to appear in the shop. And mutations aren’t a guarantee either. However, you can take advantage of playing during events, weather changes, and using gear like sprinklers.
The Advanced Sprinkler increases the growth speed and mutation chance for nearby plants over five minutes. This is why you’ll see some players stack plants close together to try and get the most out of their sprinkler. However, it could also just be bots doing this too.
In addition to those tricks, you can also play with friends to get a 10% boost in Sheckles per friend. You can check the bottom left corner to see how high your boost is when a friend is in your server. Since servers allow a maximum of six players, you can get up to a 50% boost. With that said, I’ve noticed some servers showing as having seven out of six players.
How to Get Better Seeds
The main way to get seeds in Grow a Garden is via the Seed Shop, which restocks every five minutes. High-rarity seeds will theoretically have a lower chance of spawning. This unfortunately means there’s no guarantee you’ll get better seeds. However, you can participate in events that provide Seed Packs or limited-time seeds. For example, the Lunar Glow Event has Night Seed Packs and special seeds you can purchase during a Blood Moon.
Aside from events, you can complete daily quests from the gear trader to get normal Seed Packs. These include seeds from the shop and also secret ones. I recommend keeping a supply of each seed type so you can plant them when a daily quest asks for it.
For those who don’t mind spending Robux, you can buy seeds from the shop even if they’re not currently available. I wouldn’t recommend it for most of them since the prices seem a little high. I can’t see myself spending 99 Robux on a Bamboo Seed when I’ve had 10 appear at once. It’s just not worth it at that price.
Monetization in Grow a Garden
What Can You Buy Using Robux
Grow a Garden’s monetization is easy to ignore but many choices are questionable. For example, the limited-time Exotic Bug Egg is gacha where you can spend Robux for a chance at five different pets. While gacha is common in Roblox, it’s disappointing to see the developer force players to spend Robux for a chance at a pet they want.
The gacha encourages spending Robux repeatedly until you get what you want, while also playing on FOMO (fear of missing out) with it being limited-time. This is manipulative, especially for a younger audience of gamers.
Here are other parts of Grow a Garden that are monetized with Robux:
- Buying seeds
- Restocking the seed shop
- Ridiculous prices for buying the in-game Sheckles currency
- Stealing plants from other players
