The latest Dead Rails update 0.13.0 adds three new trains you can buy for advantages and to change their appearance. Alongside that big feature, developer RCM Games also made quality of life tweaks and made it so bullets now pierce newspapers. This will slightly change the newspaper meta of keeping safe in the train cabin.

Dead Rails 0.13.0 Update Overview
0.13.0 Patch Notes
Developer RCM Games released the patch notes via Discord but we’ve included them below:
- Train classes! There are three to start, Gold Rush, Cattle Car, and Armored

- Players now have the ability to drop money in $10 intervals

- When players die, their inventory gets put into a crate that can be auto-equipped once you are revived. Other players can still open it as usual
- Players can now use the turrets at safe zones
- Got rid of auto turrets and made it so safe zones are occupied by actual soldiers
- New bullet system, bullets do less damage the further they travel, can pierce soft objects like wood and paper, meaning no more newspaper strat
- Zombies target outlaws, and outlaws target zombies
- Lobby QoL changes, if a squad is full, the timer will go faster, new UI
- New outfits for outlaws and vampires
How Much Do the New Trains Cost?
There are currently three trains you can buy in the lobby using the Bonds currency. Make sure to learn how to get Bonds in-game so you don’t have to spend a bunch of Robux. Here are the train costs and what their advantages are:
Train Name | Cost | Description |
Default Train | Free | The default starting train without any special benefits. |
Cattle Car | 225 | Provides some wooden walls around the wagon with three entrances and a roof hatch. Bullets may penetrate these walls, according to the update. |
Gold Rush | 250 | Provides no benefits and is purely cosmetic changing the train engine to golden. |
Armored Train | 275 | Slower than other trains while using fuel at a faster rate. The picture shows a turret but I haven’t confirmed if it’s included or not yet. |
How Will These Changes Impact Dead Rails?
I had a feeling it was only a matter of time until we’d get some sort of train modification so I’m glad to see we’ve got that now. This is a good idea and I’m also happy they’re not charging Robux for them either. RCM Games easily could have made the Gold Rush train have a Robux cost.
As far as the change to bullets piercing “soft objects like wood and paper” this tweak was overdue. It makes sense logically and it only impacts outlaws and the occasional zombie sheriff. Most of the time, you’re still safe hiding inside the train cabin from zombies, vampires, werewolves, etc. It’ll be more of an issue for players who don’t see the update and learn by getting shot.
I’m curious if the auto turret changes will make much of a difference. The first outpost now has eight soldiers protecting it with one at each of the four turrets. It feels like they may have buffed safe zones by having functioning turrets and soldiers. It really depends on how well enemies target those turret soldiers.
Aside from the turret changes, it should be interesting to see how significant the nerf is to bullet damage over distance. I typically clear towns from far away using a rifle so it may not be as simple now. I’m sure that damage nerf will be felt in Nightmare Mode especially. This is why the current best class in our tier list makes sense.
Bugs Currently Impacting Update 0.13.0
The Dead Rails update has only been out for about two hours and players are already finding tons of issues. I’ve noticed in my first run that zombies no longer function. They won’t chase or attack you. According to users in the Dead Rails Discord, this seems to impact all enemies except for Horses. But there are other alleged issues like dynamite flinging you through the map, the train falling off the ending bridge, banks spawning in randomly outside of towns, e.g.
Bug issues aside, let us know what you think of the Dead Rails 0.13.0 update. It’s unfortunate that there are many bugs but the developer is bound to hotfix them soon.
